There's a lot of advice out there about food prepping, but I've tried to make it simple for the busy person, because I know we just can't do everything, life is busy, so here are my tips for making life that little bit easier.
Sitting down for half an hour once a week, going through the cookbooks or Pinterest boards, asking the family what they feel like for dinner, then writing it down and sticking to it is a great way to buy only what you need and make sure you and your family are eating something good every night of the week. If you want to go a step further plan lunches and snacks too!
Most people already do this, but a shopping list is key. It saves ambling around the supermarket picking up things you don't end up using. I find if I do a meal plan and then a list, I end up spending significantly less than if I hadn't.
Prepping your veggies
Whether you get them from the market or the supermarket, prepping your veggies is a good idea. By taking an hour or so a week to chop up your veggies and put them in containers in the fridge you're saving yourself so much hassle at night after work when you just want to throw something together.
The two-day salad
Instead of making everything from scratch, every single day, sometimes it's nice to have one day when you do, then the next day you have maybe a piece of meat to chuck in the frypan and a big salad that you prepared the day before. Make a big salad to last more than a day and make your dressings in jars so they don't go soggy, then just bring it all out at dinner time and voila! You have a meal in minutes.
Snacking is what gets most people taking half a step back when they're trying to lose weight or just get healthier. It can be hard to resist just popping to the supermarket or the dairy for an afternoon snack when you're feeling the 3pm blues coming down on you. Firstly, make sure you're getting enough quality food with your meals, and secondly, get prepared with your snacks. Even if it's just a container full of roasted nuts or a fridge full of fruit. I have a box on my desk with a stash of snacks so I'm not tempted to go out and grab something naughty, although you shouldn't beat yourself up if you do once in awhile. ;)
